Football Friday, the second installment of series of events initiated by the Ministry of Youth and Sports together with strategic implementation partners Ceylon Professional Sports Management (CPSM) and Football Federation of Sri Lanka will be held today (19 February) at the Colombo Racecourse from 6 p.m. till midnight.
Under the ‘Jayagamu’ initiative, this series of events aims toward developing a healthier and more active society. The objective is to create a safe and controlled environment for the general public to engage in healthy activity despite the existing pandemic state, where most families have been restricted to their homes and the youth have been deprived of the opportunity to engage in activity.
Giving due consideration giving due consideration to the above the ministry together with its implementation partners have identified safe guidelines for the public to engage in these selected series of activities.
Football Friday aims to promote the sport the weekly concept of keeping Friday evenings exclusively for football the island over.
The event is aimed for the whole family. While it will primarily revolve around football the event will also have a mini market promoting startup entrepreneurs and a mini coaching camp for kids of all ages along with entertainment for the family.
The format for the sport will be a knockout championship with will have guest appearances and participation from various popular sporting personalities.
The game played is a social, non-contactable, mini-football of 6 per side in a mini football field. Surrounded by wholesome entertainment, a mini market and food stalls, Football Friday is for the public to maintain a healthy lifestyle, a relaxed mindset and to have a joyful family evening on a Friday night, while adhering to stipulated health guidelines.
