The 67th National Badminton Championships 2019 and the 2020 Junior Nationals will take place at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo from 13-18 January.
The annual mega badminton tournaments, organised by Sri Lanka Badminton (SLB) typically attract hundreds of top shuttlers from all over the island. The shuttlers will compete under 24 categories during the Senior Nationals.
Entries close on 6 January at 4 p.m. Entry forms are available at SLB Headquarters and the SLB website, www.srilankabadminton.lk. Entry forms can be handed over to the SLB Headquarters at Maitland Place Colombo 7, or No. 2 Cambridge Terrace, Colombo 7 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. on week days and 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
The draw will be held on 10 January at 10 a.m. at SLB Headquarters and will be published on the SLB Notice Board and the Association’s official website.
Defending singles champions Dinuka Karunaratna and Thilini Hendahewa will be the cynosure of all eyes, vying for the two most sought-after titles despite a strong competition from a number of talented shuttlers during the event.
In the previous edition of the event, Thilini and Kavidi Sirimannage won the women’s doubles title while Kavidi and Buwaneka Gunatilleka won the mixed doubles. Sachin Dias and Buwaneka captured the top honours in the men’s doubles.
A total of Rs. 1 million will be on offer as prize money during the nationals.
