The Doha Rugby Football Club is likely to feature in the Inter-Club Clifford Cup knockout rugby tournament and Inter-Club Sevens.
Uncertainty in the Middle East and Qatar boycotting the UAE are the two main reasons for the Qatar club looking elsewhere in Asia for their rugby. The Doha Rugby Club will be in Kandy.
The Doha Rugby Football Club is one of the leading outfits in the West Asia Premiership, finishing second last year behind the Abu Dhabi Harlequins. Founded by British expatriates in 1974, it is the oldest club in the Arabian Gulf. Doha RFC were runners-up and were the only team to beat winners the Abu Dhabi Harlequins.
The Clifford Cup and Sevens are the likely events the Doha team can participate in with the league certain to be off the table due to the time period and cost involved in their stay in Sri Lanka. These matters were discussed at a Sri Lanka Rugby meeting which took place recently.
