The President’s Gold Cup 2017, powered by Sri Lanka’s premier telecommunication services provider, Dialog Axiata PLC, held its first district level matches in Kegalle on 16 and 17 September. The matches were worked-off at Ruwanwella Rajasinghe Vidyalaya, Ruwanwella, Kegalle District and set the stage for over 90 teams that participated in this round of games.
The Dialog President’s Gold Cup volleyball tournament has a history spanning over two decades and is hosted by the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation. The tournament is worked off island wide over a period of four months and attracts teams from over 300 Grama Seva divisions. This year, the tournament will consist of over 2,500 teams and 40,000 players, making it one of the largest sports tournaments to be held in the island.
Additionally, volleyballs and nets were gifted to the teams to commemorate the opening ceremony by Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation President Ranjith Siyambalapitiya.
Dialog Axiata PLC is also the official sponsor for the national cricket and rugby teams and is closely associated with school’s cricket, club rugby, club football and Para Games.
