Dellon’s cricketing consistency has translated into votes

Dialog 4G-the Sunday Times Most Popular Schoolboy/Schoolgirl Cricketer of the Year 2018 

Dellon Peiris, the match-winning leg-spinner of S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia, continues to display his prowess for yet another week in the All-Island Schools category of the Dialog 4G-the Sunday Times Most Popular Schoolboy/Schoolgirl Cricketer of the Year 2018 competition which reaches the end of its 15th week. 

Dellon added 1,842 votes to his ever-growing tally, which has now hit 16,956 votes, while his counterpart from St. Peter’s College, Sachin Silva, has polled 6,979 votes. With 11 more weeks to go, Dellon could reach a record tally. This week too Dellon earned the most number of combined votes. 

In third place is Vihan Gunasekara of D.S. Senanayake College, who seems to be quite comfortable with his present pace. His addition to the total maybe 59 for the previous week, but Vihan’s total of 4,591 at the moment is a safe count for him, with no competition from the other competitors in the line-up. As usual Ananda College skipper Asel Sigera follows in at fourth with Kavin Peiris of Lumbini College in fifth. 

Denuwan Perera of Carey College continues to dominate the Emerging Schools category for yet another week. His total reaches 8,251 votes by this week after adding up 1,165 combined votes. He leads Kenula Gunaratne of St. Aloysius College, Ratnapura by 2,941 votes. 

Kenula took his total to 5,310 after adding 1,001 combined votes. He leads third-placed Sonara Karunathunga of Ananda Sasthralaya by 1,665 votes, which is more impressive in numbers than last week. Thimira Malshan, also of Ananda Sasthralaya, is in fourth place, way behind teammate Sonara, while Heshan Madushanka of Piliyandala Central remains in fifth position. 

Harshitha Samarawickrama of Anula Vidyalaya continues to lead the Girls’ category. Her count has reached 5,155 this week and the lead against Pabasara Ranabahu of Rathnavali Girls’ School Gampaha is 1,401. She managed to add 321 combined votes while Pabasara added 516 combined votes to take her tally to 3,754. Kaveesha Dilhani of Devapathiraja MV, Rathgama and Ruwini Nandasena of St. Joseph’s Girls’ School are the two other contenders on the list. 

Coupons and online votes 

Coupons will be published in the two English dailies the Daily Mirror and the Daily FT, and the two Sinhala dailies Daily Lankadeepa and Ada, and Sinhala weekend newspaper Deshaya, with the deadline set to arrive after 11 more weekends. Readers can vote for their favourite schoolboy or schoolgirl cricketer and take them to the winning post during this period. 

Dialog Axiata’s online system to vote for the Most Popular Cricketer (www.dialog.lk/cricket) will allow voting until 5 April 2018. 

Both coupon votes and online votes will be counted on a weekly basis and the official results will be published in the five newspapers and their websites. 

The deadline for coupons and online votes will be every Thursday afternoon. Online votes received after the weekly cut-off period will be counted for the next week, while for coupons only those numbered for the particular week will be taken into account. This week’s digital voting count was monitored and approved by auditors PricewaterhouseCoopers.
