Decade unbroken Long Jump record tumbles on first day of Sir John Tarbat Senior Schools Athletics Ch

The first day of the Sir John Tarbat Senior Schools Meet witnessed a decade-long unbroken long jump record finally broken by Hirusha Hashen of St. Peters, Colombo in the Under-16 category with a new meet record of 7.19 metres. He surpassed the previous meet record jump of 6.84 metres achieved by R. Gunasinghe of S. Thomas’s College, Mt. Lavinia in 2007. 

The Sir John Tarbat Senior Schools Athletics Championships is taking place at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo with over 4,500 athletes from 600 schools vying for honours during the three-day competition.

Day 1 results

  • 5000 metres Under-20 Girls – G. V. A. Eshan Sadhali Sithara Godagama from St. Andrews Balika Maha Vidyalaya with 19:26.44min 
  •  Shot Putt Under-20 Girls – K. Jaane Gayana de Silva from Ave Maria Convent, Negambo with 10.15 metre 
  •  5000m Under-20 Boys – H. G. S. Sankalpa from Makandura Central College, Makandura with 15:52.16 min 
  •  Triple Jump Under-20 Girls – Randi Cooray from Gateway College, Colombo with 12.13 metres 
  •  Pole Vault Under-18 Boys – S. Sugerthan from Mahajana College, Tellippalai with 4.00 metres
  •  High Jump Under-18 Girls – D. G. Yasodha Thejani Dinukshika Mahinda from Rajapaksha College, Homagama with 1.54 metres 
  •  Javelin Throw Under-18 Boys – M. Thushmina Krishmal of St. Mary’s College, Chilaw with 60.45 metres
  •  Long Jump Under-16 Boys – Hirusha Hashen from St. Peters College, Colombo with a new meet record of 7.19 metres
  •  Shot Putt Under-16 Boys – Naveen Marasinghe, St. Joseph’s College, Colombo with 15.46 metres 
  • Discus Throw Under-20 Girls – Chanuka Athapaththu of Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo with 34.37 metres

Ritzbury of Ceylon Biscuits Ltd. (CBL) is the sponsor of this prestigious meet for the sixth consecutive year. The meet will continue tomorrow.
