Syria and Hong Kong had a flying start yesterday on the opening day of the Davis Cup Asia Oceanic group III event which commenced in Jordan. Vietnam too registered a hard-fought win.
The Sri Lankan players, who had to hotel quarantine for seven days, started their training sessions acclimatising to the local conditions yesterday.
Syria handed off hosts Jordan 3-0 while Hong Kong was too strong for the Malaysian outfit winning by 3-0 as well. In the other encounter of the day, Vietnam edged out Pacific Oceanic outfit 2-1.
Sri Lanka will be in action for the first time today when they meet Syria in a tough contest.
Group A comprises of Hong Kong, Kuwait and Malaysia. Group B comprises of Vietnam, Qatar and China, and Group C comprises of Syria, Sri Lanka and Jordan. (SJ)
