Dyan leads Sevens outfit to Singapore
By Shamseer Jaleel
Former Antonian and Kandy SC player Danushka Dyan will lead the Sri Lankan outfit for the tour of Singapore. The team will leave the island today (2).
Sri Lanka Rugby has decided to send the outfit for the one-day tournament in memory of three members of a family based in Singapore who lost their lives in the Easter Sunday bombing of a hotel in Colombo.
This tournament will be played on 5 November in Singapore in memory of Anita Nicholson and her two children Alex and Annabel who were killed in the bomb attack in Colombo. This tournament will see three teams, namely, Singapore Select, Sri Lanka Select and Fiji (Daveta) battle it out.
Sri Lanka will feature in another sevens event later next week. These two events will be used as a yardstick to select the National Sevens outfit for the Olympic Qualification event which will take place in South Korea on 23 and 24 November.
As Japan already qualified as the hosting nation one more berth is on offer for the winner at this event for a taste of Olympic Games in 2020.
