The national level games of the DSI Supersport Schools Volleyball Championship will begin at Rajasinghe Central College in Ruwanwella on 11 September.
The tournament will go on till 14 September. Over 2,000 teams participated in the district matches, and of these 400 have been selected to compete in the national matches. The teams have been categorised in the Under-13 Girls/Boys, Under-15 Girls/Boys, Under-17 Girls/Boys and Under-19 Girls/Boys. The final matches will be held on 22 and 23 September at the Indoor Stadium in Bandaragama.
The championship was first initiated by DSI in 1999 with the collaboration of the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation and the Ministry of Education with the participation of 198 teams. The objective of the DSI Supersport Schools Volleyball Championship is to bring together players from both the urban and rural areas in the spirit of sportsmanship and provide them with a national platform to show off their skills and gain the necessary exposure, which will help the young sportsmen and women develop their talents and future careers in the game.
As Sri Lanka’s leading footwear manufacturer and distributor, DSI has once again taken up the task of conducting the championship, which is now the most popular national level volleyball tournament in the country. As in 1999, the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation and the School Volleyball Association of the Ministry of Education continue to support DSI in their goal.
