The finals of the DSI Supersport Schools Volleyball Championship 2017 are scheduled to take place on 23 and 24 October at the National Youth Services Centre in Maharagama.
Gracing the event as Chief Guest will be Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam.
The very first DSI Supersport Schools Volleyball Championship took place in 1999 with a total of 198 teams participating. Ever since then DSI, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation and the Ministry of Education, has always come forward to organise and sponsor the championship. The primary objective of the tournament is to provide urban and rural players with a national platform upon which they may showcase and develop their volleyball skills as well as gain proper exposure. This year’s championship saw the introduction of the Under-13 category for the first time.
The following categories will play on 23 October – Under-15 and Under-17 girls and Under-15 boys, while the Under-13 and Under-19 girls’ teams, and the boys’ Under-13,Under-17 and Under-19 age groups will compete on 24 October. The matches will be telecast on Sri Lanka Rupavahini on 4 and 5 November from 9.00 a.m. onwards.
