Creative Software, a pioneer and leader in Sri Lanka’s software industry, launched Creative Sixes, Sri Lanka’s first IT cricket encounter last year with the objective of bringing students from leading IT and Computer Science faculties together for a fun-filled day while fighting to win the Creative Sixes Cricket Trophy.
Continuing the tradition, the tournament again took place on 14 September this year at the Bloomfield grounds.
Creative Sixes 2019 brought together 19 teams from 15 state and private universities. Team J’Pura Sixes of the Department of IT, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura emerged the champions and Team FCT of the Faculty of Computing and Technology, University of Kelaniya became the runners-up. The Sabra Sixes unit of the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka finished second runners-up.
The Best Batsman trophy was awarded to Rusira Nipun of Team FCT of the University of Kelaniya and A.P. Kasun Anuruddha and M.D.D. Aaloka Dissanayake of Team J’Pura Sixes were selected Best Bowler and Best Player respectively.
Creative Software is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and throughout its history the company has always maintained strong ties to academia. The company is committed to the successful growth of Sri Lanka’s ICT industry through the development of undergraduates who can meet the challenges of the future. Creative Software has undergraduate R&D labs located in-house and at university campuses that provide numerous internships and work with undergraduates on initiatives such as knowledge-sharing sessions, hackathons and career guidance conferences. Creative Sixes 2019 is yet another way to strengthen these university-industry bonds today and into the future.
