Since the postponement, two new teams, namely Colombo Masters and the Nuwara Eliya CA President’s team, have entered the fray for the fifth Lanka Cavaliers Cricket ‘Sixes’ 2017, coming up on 30 September at De Soysa Park, Moratuwa, commencing at 8.30 a.m.
The tournament, being a part of Lanka Cavaliers’ 20th anniversary celebrations, was originally scheduled to be held on 16 September at the same venue but was postponed due to inclement weather.
The 12 invited teams will be engaged in a knockout competition based on the rules and playing conditions of the Hong Kong International Cricket ‘Sixes’.
The draw: Vintage vs. Old Peterites, the winner is to meet MCA Veterans (bye); Colombo Masters vs. Old Parlians, the winner is to meet the Association of Professional Cricket Umpires (PCU) (bye); Association of Cricket Umpires (ACU) vs. the combined Olcott Schools, the winner is to meet Old Thurstanites (bye); Jaffna CA vs. Nuwara Eliya CA, the winner is to meet the Old Sebastianites (bye).
Special awards are on offer for the best batsman, bowler and man of the final and most senior player.
Some of the members of the 1996 World Cup-winning team will grace the occasion and will play a six-a-side match against Lanka Cavaliers.
Mahesh Gunatillake will be the Guest of Honour at the opening ceremony and Sidath Wettimuny will be the Chief Guest at the final and awards ceremony.
