The Victoria Golf and Country Resort (VGCR) will host the Club Championship on 21 and 22 October in Rajawella, Digana.
The competition will tee off at 7.00 a.m. VCGR was voted as one of the 100 most beautiful courses in the world and is the top course in the Asian subcontinent. The par 736,974 yard championship course was designed in 1997 by the internationally acclaimed golf course architect Donald Steel to USPGA standards.
The 10th Annual Club Championship 2017 will feature two days of competitive golf in a stroke play format. The championship will be over 18 holes at the Victoria Golf and Country Resort. Players will be given a feel of playing in a professional tournament through the use of top quality collateral and administration.
Victoria Golf Club members from all over the country and from overseas will be vying for the title of club champion at the Annual Club Championship, which is an eagerly anticipated event on the annual golf calendar.
Past winners have all been golfers of high quality and include Ian Tait, the winner in 2007, and Amrith De Soysa, who claimed the title twice in 2010 and in 2015. In 2016 Lalith Rohitha claimed the gents’ club champion title while Niloo Jayathilake claimed the ladies’ club champion title.
In 2017 Lalith and Niloo will be defending their titles against strong opposition. Sujeewa Lankatileke won the title twice in 2012 and 2013. No other player has won the title in successive years. The other winners of the championship are John Scarth in 2014 and Alain Gyi in 2009.
