Sri Lanka 15s outfit for the Asian Rugby Championship 2019 Division I XV a side will be selected today when Kandy Origins and Colombo Origins lock horns at Havelock Park under lights at 6.30 p.m.
This encounter will be a supporting game for Sri Lanka Rugby Legend Chandrishan Perera. All funds collected will be made available for Shan from this encounter. The Colombo outfit will be led by Omalka Gunaratne while Roshan Weeraratne will lead the Kandy team.
Sri Lanka national outfit will tour Malaysia during May where they will play two encounters against the Malaysian outfit who will feature in the top three in Asia playing among Hong Kong and Korea later this month on a home and away basis. These two encounters will be a good exposure for the Sri Lankan lads. Following tomorrow’s game, a 33-member national squad will be finalised.
Two playmakers, Kandy SC’s Shehan Pathirana and Havies ironman Dushmantha Priyadarshana, both will miss out due to injuries which will be a major concern for the national selectors.
The Colombo outfit will be coached by Viraj Prasanna while Fazil Marija will take charge of the Outstation side. On Tour New Zealand national and former Trinity Head Coach Matt Lee will be in charge of the outfit with Fazil and Viraj assisting him.
