The October Edition of the LECTRA Grand-Prix 2019 played in the hill country of the exquisite Nuwara Eliya Golf Club, reached the halfway mark of the 4-round monthly event counted for the WAGR (World Amateur Golf Rankings), with M. U. Chanaka Perera, the Sri Lanka Amateur Golf Champion 2019, taking the lead with a blistering 3-under par second round 68. Chanaka’s opening round of 71 placed him 2nd, one stroke behind veteran B. A. Sanjeewa who held a slender lead after round one.
Chanaka Perera by virtue of his strong second round showing, enjoyed a comfortable four stroke lead after two rounds over the NEGC local top amateur B. Vinoth Kumar, whose second round 70 moved him up to joint 2nd place with first round leader Sanjeewa on 143. G.I Dilranga representing the Sri Lanka Navy returned two good rounds to be placed fourth seven strokes adrift of the leader. Veterans Amarapadma and Indika were close behind.
The overall LECTRA Grand Prix Standings leader Sisira Kumara shared seventh place with Pradeep Kumara after an uncharacteristic opening round of 6-over but recovered with a 73 in the second round, 11 strokes behind the leader.
35 players teed-off and the cut-off was made at 169. NEGC Junior National Champion Duwarshan made the ‘cut’ in 10th place along with players from the Navy, Army and Air Force.

The Sri Lanka National Men’s & Women’s Teams for the upcoming SARC Championships in Katmandu Nepal, are being well nurtured and prepared by the Golf Union in expectation of Medals and glory.
The LECTRA GP 2019 October Edition continues at the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club, and surprises may still happen at the top of the leader board though National Champ Chanaka is expected to maintain his lead.
