ICC: Sri Lanka Women’s cricket team captain Chamari Athapaththu is among three nominees for the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for January.

In the ICC Commonwealth Games Qualifiers held in Malaysia last month, Athapaththu struck 57 off just 29 balls to lead Sri Lanka to a nine-wicket win on day three of the tournament earning her also the title of the Player of the Match. Athapaththu was also the leading run-scorer in the ICC Commonwealth Games Qualifier in Malaysia as Sri Lanka won all four of their matches.
The other nominees for the award are Deandra Dottin of West Indies who smashed her career best ODI score of 150 off 158 balls against South Africa and Heather Knight whose innings of 168 (not out) and 48 helped England draw the Ashes Test against Australia.
For the Men’s Player of the Month for January the nominees are Dewald Brevis of South Africa. Nicknamed ‘Baby AB’ he left a mark in the recently concluded ICC U19 Cricket World Cup as the leading run-getter with over 500 runs, Bangladesh right-arm pacer Ebadot Hossain who bowled his country to a historic maiden Test win over New Zealand, and Keegan Petersen whose superb 82 helped South Africa to clinch the Test series 2-1 against India.
