CR record listless win

CR and FC had to fire on all cylinders in order to beat Sri Lankan Air Force 21-9 after trailing 3-6 at halftime.

The Airmen took the lead through a penalty from Charith Seneviratne who was accurate with a more than 40-meter penalty kick. CR, although losing skipper Kavindu Perera to a yellow card, equalised through a Tharinda Ratwatte penalty. However, Seneviratne was on target with another penalty kick to have the red shirts up 6-3 at halftime.

There were too many senseless kicks as both sides tried to gain a territorial advantage but the encounter turned into a dull affair for the spectators. CR forward Chamikara scored the first try for the red shirts. But the lead was short-lived as Air Force’s place kicker Seneviratne was on target with his third penalty of the evening.

But one more CR penalty by Ratwatte and a penalty try courtesy of Aaqil Jamaldeen saw CR sealing the game 21-9.

Navy edges out Soldiers

Navy SC regrouped and displayed quality rugby in the latter half of their game against Army in Welisara to seal a 20-14 win in their Dialog Rugby League 2017 tournament opener. The referee for the match was Priyantha Guneratne.
