Bishop’s College U-19 tennis team emerged victorious at the recently concluded All-Island interschool tennis tournament held from 30 September to 4 October at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) in Colombo.
The team began their conquest by beating Holy Family Convent and Methodist College and losing just one match each against them.
Next, the Bishopians met Visakha Vidyalaya in the semi-finals and won the first singles and the first and second doubles against them, after which they moved straight into the final against Newstead College.
On the final day, the high-spirited BC team was ready to face their biggest challenge. The Bishopians, with a favourable draw, went in strong. Losing just the first doubles, Bishop’s College snatched a tremendous win three matches to one. This was the side’s first under-19 win after 10 years.
“The dedication, commitment and team spirit shown by the under-19 players were a glimpse of the glory days that BC tennis boasts of. The team had strong support from the Principal, Vice Principal and Coaches. They were further encouraged by their energetic Teacher-In-Charge Raviraj together with Hashini Dissanayake,” noted a media release.
Bishop’s College is captained by Senthi Weerasekera with Savini Jayasuriya as her Deputy.
