Former Kingswood, Kandy SC and Sri Lanka Sevens skipper Fazil Marija will assist his cousin Nilfer Ibrahim at the Asian Sevens 2018 tournament in Hong Kong next month as the Assistant Coach of the country.
Meanwhile, former Trinitian and double International (Basketball and Rugby) Duminda De Silva will be the High Performance Manager of the junior outfit for the tour. Dinesh Kumara will operate as the trainer.
The squad will commence training today and will have nearly three weeks before the tournament kicks off on 10 August at the Kings Park rugby grounds in Hong Kong.
Marija represented Kingswood for four years, leading the outfit in his final year. He represented the Kandy SC for more than a decade while being an automatic choice for the national Sevens and Fifteens outfit. Arguably he and Hisham Abdeen are the two best rugby players to be produced by the country. Kumara, who is with St. Joseph’s College and CH&FC, will work as the trainer of the junior outfit. The former CH&FC, CR&FC, Kandy SC and Havelocks winger has been travelling overseas for strength and conditioning courses since he hung up his boots.
Former Trinitian, Mr. Sri Lanka and double international Duminda De Silva will function as the High Performance Manager. Silva also played for Kandy SC and CR&FC whilst he was pursuing his modeling career to become Mr. Sri Lanka in 1999.
