The Sri Lankan rugby outfit for the 18th Asian Games was named, with the experienced Sudarshana Muthuthanthri leading the outfit once again.
Shockingly, Richard Dharmapala and Kevin Dixon were both left out. Dixon is currently trainingin New Zealand. Sri Lanka will be aiming for a first team medal at this event later this month.
Gayan Weeraratne, the former Kandy SC skipper, will be aiming for a comeback to the big league after a lapse of three years. Youngsters Rehan Silva and Reza Rafaideen are in the squad, which boasts an equal balance of experience and youth.
Sri Lanka missed out on a medal in the last event in 2014 when they were placed fourth. Sudarshana Muthuthanthri (Captain, CH&FC), Dhanushka Ranjan, Jason Dissanayake, Danushka Dyan, Gayan Weeraratne, SrinathSooriyabandara (all from Kandy SC), Kavindu Perera, Rehan Silva, Tharinda Ratwatte, Reza Rafaideen (all from CR&FC), SudamSooriyarachchi (CH&FC) and Buddhima Piyaratne (Navy SC).
