Ansell Lanka sent the Delmage Group on a leather hunt in the ongoing CBL-Munchee Trophy MCA ‘D’ Division, 40-Over League Tournament 2020, which continued last weekend.
Ansell Lanka, who won the toss and elected to bat, amassed 299 for 5 in 40 overs. The batsmen who treated the Delmage bowlers with scant respect were Pathum Ekanayake (81 not out), Sahan Harshana (60), Prabath Dhananjaya (54) and Krishan Maduranga (48). They went on to rub salt in their opponents’ wound as their bowlers Deshan Silva (4 for 38), Prabath Dhananjaya (2 for 8) and Jayamal Wanniarachchi (2 for 16) skittled out Delmage for a paltry 83 runs in 23 overs, winning by 216 runs.
The 2019 ‘D’ Division runners-up Central Finance crashed to their third defeat, this time beaten by Hemas Holdings by 35 runs. Earlier on they were beaten by Melwire Rolling and DPMC and had a close call against Ansell Lanka.
In a low-scoring game which the bowlers dominated, David Pieris Motor Co. beat Melwire Rolling by the skin of their teeth. Melwire Rolling scored 90 runs in 25.4 overs, with the top bowlers being Akila Elabodage (4 for 13) and Udara Bandara (3 for 09). Melwire did not easily roll over as the match went down to the wire. DPMC recorded 93 for 9 in 24.5 overs, winning by one wicket. The top bowlers were N. Raj (4 for 25) and A. Eranga (3 for 28).
Nawaloka Hospitals, the 2019 ‘E’ Division winner, faced several close encounters before winning against debutants Mode Engineering (by two runs) and MAS Bodyline (by 14 runs).
