Ladies Club skipper Ahalya Rajan won the Nett Club Championship while Anouk Chitty accounted for the Presidents Prize, overall Club Championship and the Longest Drive at the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club’s Ladies Cup 2022 event which took place in their Club Course in Nuwara Eliya recently.
Sumudu Desinghe too was in sparkling form accounting for the Bronze Cup, runner-up in the Presidents Prize and nearest to the PIN.
The colourful event was sponsored by Wurth.
NEGC Secretary Brig. (retd.) Nanda Hathurusinghe speaking to Daily FT said: “We are very happy to restart the Monthly Medal after more than two decades for both Gents and Ladies. We received very good numbers to start and this will continue, the numbers are assured to go up in the coming months. The Ladies event too we have had more than 20 numbers which was a very good sign for the future.
“We are very thankful to our sponsor for this event Wurth and we will do our level best for the game to grow in the Hill Country. We have golf clinics at the club. They are allowed to play and practice on designated days. Further, we want to start Junior Medal from December 2022. All our staff at NEGC are from the local town and we encourage the youngsters to take up the sport which is growing very fast in Sri Lanka after cricket and rugby.”
