Airmen stun table toppers Moors SC with five-wicket win

Yohan Liyanage scored 104 runs in boundaries in his unbeaten 155 for Ragama CC against Tamil Union

Air Force SC pulled off one of the biggest upsets in the ongoing Major Club Emerging three-day tournament when they beat Group A leaders Moors SC by five wickets in their match played at Katunayake yesterday. It was the Moors SC’s first loss in five matches.

After being shot out for 150 in the first innings Moors SC recovered to score 339-8 before declaring their second innings leaving Air Force to chase 172 off 47 overs. The Airmen took up the challenge to reach the target with 2.5 overs to spare scoring 174-5. Opener Kemira Wijenayake played the stellar role scoring a polished 82 off 140 balls (8 fours) to see the Airmen home.  

In the other key match Tamil Union got the better of Ragama CC in the top of the table Group C clash which ended in a draw at the P. Sara Oval. Ragama CC who conceded first innings points to Tamil Union were left with the unrealistic target of chasing 381 off 54 overs, they finished on 258-5 with opener Yohan Liyanage scoring the bulk of the runs with an unbeaten 155 off 137 balls where 104 of them came off boundaries (10 sixes, 11 fours).  

Ambidextrous spinner Tharindu Ratnayake took a match bag of ten wickets for 200 runs and left-handed opener Vishal Silva struck a pugnacious 60* off 39 balls (3 sixes, 3 fours) as Sebastianites pulled off an eight-wicket win over CCC.

A sensational collapse by Badureliya SC batsmen in their second innings losing their last seven wickets for four runs and be all out for 42 handed Police SC an easy nine-wicket win. Five batsmen were dismissed without scoring. Police SC slow left-arm orthodox bowler Asel Sigera ended with a match bag of eight wickets for 54 runs.  

Slow left-arm orthodox bowler Kaumal Nanayakkara took a match bag of ten wickets for 114 including 6 for 78 in the second innings and off-spinner Shehada Zoysa (match bag 8/111) to bowl Army SC to a comprehensive 197-run win over Galle CC.

There were also wins for Navy SC and Panadura SC.
