Trinity College 2020/2021 Under-19 cricket captain and Senior Prefect Abhishek Anandakumara won the Ryde Gold Medal (Best all-round student) for the year 2020 at Trinity.
Abishek Anandakumara who made his Trinity First XI cricket debut at the age of 14 turned out to be one of the best all-rounders in Under-19 inter-school cricket season for the last couple of years. He started his cricket career at Under-13 in 2012 and went on to lead the First XI outfit in his last year.
He represented the Under-15 and Under-19 Central Province teams plus Team Kandy in the Super Provincial Under-19 event in 2019. He was the Vice-Captain of the national Under-15 outfit which toured Malaysia in 2017. Further he has led at all levels at Trinity starting from Under-13 to Under-19. He was the Vice-Captain of the 2019/2020 outfit which won the All-Island Best Team.
In the last two seasons, he scored more than 650 runs and took 70-plus wickets, winning his cricket “Lion”. He scored a magnificent century against Matara Servetus in his last year at cricket. His best for Trinity was against Lumbini where he took 8 for 54 which stands very tall in the Kandy School record books. He won the Lion in 2019 and was awarded senior prefect of the school as well.
He represented Kurunegala Youth, Negombo CC, Tri Youth CC, Kandy Youth CC, Old Trinitians SC and Kandy CC in domestic cricket.
Trinity which has produced some outstanding cricketers in the past such as Denam Madena, Chaminda Unantenne, Nilantha Ratnayake, Kaushalya Weeraratne, Ravi Ratnayake and Kumar Sangakkara in the last three decades who went on to represent the national team in some level and Abhishek is all out to repeat this performance when he starts with his club career in the near future.
