Sri Lanka’s pioneering corporate golf tournament, the prestigious ‘Shakespeare Shield’ will tee-off its 110th edition this year on 23 May at the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC).
Sinohydro took home top honours last year, with Song Qingguo and Zeng Ming racking up 35 stableford points, beating The Little Gym’s Manoj Algama and J. Ismail by just one point.
24 teams vied for glory at the competition last year, which was worked off despite challenges posed by the pandemic with adherence to all prescribed health guidelines.
The Shakespeare Shield Golf Tournament is named after W. Shakespeare, a former Chairman of Carson Cumberbatch PLC, who was elected to the RCGC Committee in 1908. It was he who initiated the first ‘Foursomes Competition’ for private companies, banks and State institutions and has been on the annual calendar of RCGC from the year 1911. The tournament is sponsored exclusively by Carson Cumberbatch PLC since then.
The ‘Shakespeare Shield’ tournament is played in a stableford format and it is the only Board event open to Corporates which is a team event where two member players from any registered companies, diplomatic institutions, Government agencies, police and the armed forces of Sri Lanka can participate.
