Seventeen-year-old Royal College player Thehan Wijemanne was in sparkling form, winning the Men’s Singles title at the 106th Colombo Open Tennis Tournament, which was played at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) Courts in Green Path.
The Royalist was in top form, beating Chathurya Nilaweera 6/4, 4/6, 10/7 after a tough final outing. This was Thehan’s second big win; a few months back, he won the Men’s Clay Court beating Luka Knese. He has a unique record, winning the Under-16 singles in 2019, Under-18 singles runner-up in 2020.
Gehansa Methnadi of Musaeus College beat Movindi Fernando 4/1, 4/1 in the Girls’ Under-12 Singles semi-final encounter.Meanwhile, Anjalika Kurera came back with another good display when she won the women’s singles title, defeating Neyara Weerawansa 6/4,6/0.
The SLTA-conducted Hard Court Championship will commence on 10 December. (SJ)
