Ties between the Arab world and Sri Lanka could be traced to many centuries back. In their voyages of trade seeking new markets Sri Lanka has often been a lush finding following which commercial and cultural relations grew.
In the modern Gulf, Dubai enjoys an envious position as the hub for the region. Recently Heraymila Securities, set up by the Dubai-based investment arm of the family office of Abdulaziz Al Mashal family group of Saudi Arabia, one of the wealthiest families in the Kingdom, endeavoured to reconnect Sri Lanka with the Middle East and lure investors to consider and benefit from Sri Lanka’s post-war opportunities.
The initiative themed ‘Investment Destination Sri Lanka’ saw a Sri Lankan delegation led by Senior Minister for International Monetary Cooperation Dr. Sarath Amunugama and comprising a group of select Lankan companies. The road show aimed at facilitating investments in Sri Lanka provided the UAE investment community an opportunity to get a view on the exciting prospects in the emerging Sri Lankan economy.
