Nawaloka Vesak Pandol 2014 for 58th year

As per the concept of the founder and late chairman of Nawaloka Group Deshmanya H.K. Dharmadasa, the 58th annual Nawaloka Pandol will be declared open on Vesak Poya Day 14 May 2014 at the auspicious time of 7 p.m. at the Peliyagoda roundabout. This year, Nawaloka Pandol depicts the Ten Perfections preached by Lord Buddha – generosity  (dana), proper conduct (sila), renunciation (nekkamma), transcendental wisdom (panna), diligence (viriya), patience (shanty), truthfulness (sacca), determination (adhitthana), loving kindness (metta) and serenity (upekkha). The height of the pandol this year will be 65 feet and its width is 70 feet using over 60,000 colourful bulbs to illuminate. The pandol will be open for public viewing for seven days from 7 p.m. onwards. On this Vesak Poya Day, the series of events at the Nawaloka Pandol will commence at 5:30 p.m. with a Perahera from Sedawatte Sri Nawaloka Temple to Nawaloka Buddha Shrine at Peliyagoda roundabout followed by a bana preaching at 6 p.m. by Ven. Kotte Sri Naga Viharadhipathi Maduluwawe Sobhitha Thero and at 6:45 p.m. Bakthi Geetha by employees of Nawaloka Group. Specialists such as Pushpananda Denipitiya for art work, Nimal Fernando for lighting, Bandara Eheliyagoda for Scripwriting and coordination by Ven. Shasthrapathi Pannala Gnanaloka Thero of Sedawatte Sri Nawaloka Temple have been involved in this year’s Nawaloka Pandol. A Vesak Dansala of distributing 5,000 lunch packets to the needy will be held at noon on 14 May at the residence of Late H.K. Dharmadasa at 65, C.W.W. Kannangara Mawatha, Colombo 7.
