Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN), in a collaborative partnership with Entrepreneur Hubs Sri Lanka, celebrated the grand finale of the Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) 2016 on 21 November.
The event, held at the Nugegoda Business Hub of the Entrepreneur Hub network, celebrated a wrap-up of GEW 2016 and a round-up for GEN Members of Sri Lanka at the inaugural event of GEN Sri Lanka – the GEN Sri Lanka Round Up 2016.
GEW is an annual event celebrated around the world during a week in November. This year over 15,000 events and competitions were held in 165 countries inspiring over 15 million people to engage in entrepreneurial activity while connecting them to potential collaborators, mentors and investors.
Backed by the Kauffman Foundation, the initiative is supported by dozens of world leaders, policymakers, educators, corporate houses and a network of more than 15,000 partner organisations. Entrepreneur Hubs Sri Lanka said it was proud to be a collaborative partner of the Global Entrepreneurship Network.
The evening’s event offered guests and members of the Entrepreneur Hubs the opportunity to gain insights into the GEN Movement and the value of building a Sri Lanka and Global entrepreneurial ecosystem, and to enjoy fellowship and network with likeminded individuals, fellow entrepreneurs, start-ups, small-scale business owners and mentors. Suresh De Mel from GEN officially started off the evening with a video presentation on GEN and its positive impact on the global entrepreneurship community and ecosystem. Michael Moonesinghe followed up with a presentation on Entrepreneur Hubs, the dire need for such a platform in Sri Lanka and how the Entrepreneur Hub Community encourages and contributes towards the collaborative co-worker environment.
Entrepreneur Hubs helps to connect an emerging community of local start-ups by utilising its network of Hubs – currently with Business Hubs in Colpetty, Nugegoda and Mount Lavinia, and many more strategically located Hubs in the pipeline – to give entrepreneurs and start-ups every possible chance of success. The collaborative partnership between these two supporters of the start-up ecosystem, both locally and internationally, is a large and welcome step forward for the entrepreneurship landscape in Sri Lanka. The initiative was supported by the Daily FT.
