Poverty has been identified as one of the major causes of discontent and conflict in South Asia, a region that is home to a quarter of the world’s poor, and although governments in the region have vocalised policies and implemented programmes to deal with the problem of poverty, there is a dire need for the private and non-governmental sector to get involved in order to combat this pressing issue effectively.
