WISTA to hold Career Fair and Quiz Competition on 29 October

Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association better known as WISTA, is an international networking organisation for women at management level involved in maritime transportation business and related trades. It is acknowledged as a professional and highly reputed shipping organisation with focus on improving levels of competency in the shipping industry.

Although in its infancy stage, WISTA was able to leave its imprint in the Sri Lankan shipping industry by organising a host of events in the past year, one of which is the first ever shipping and logistics career fair and quiz competition for students from ladies schools across the island held in April this year.

The students present had the opportunity to meet representatives of leading educational institutes and were able to gain knowledge on various courses which are offered in the field of shipping and logistics. The education institutes made presentations on the qualifications needed to enrol in shipping related programs, the time period, course fees and also higher education options available subsequently. 

WISTA is planning on taking this career fair further by organising a quiz for students from the educational institutes of the shipping and logistics sector, targeting students who have already completed higher education in the fields and seeking employment within the industry.

‘Women in Logistics & Transport’ (WILAT) will be partnering them in this endeavour.

WISTA is planning to invite shipping and shipping related companies to showcase their company profiles and to explain the opportunities available to students within those companies in the shipping and logistics industry. 

The Career Fair and Quiz Competition will be held on 29 October from 2 p.m. onwards at the Anthurium Hall of Hotel Galadari.
