Commencing cargo operations from the Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA), SriLankan Airlines’ cargo operations’ took over the first shipment to Chennai from its long-standing, top agent ExpoLanka Freight. The shipment contained garment accessories, weighing 900 kg.

Shifan, Airport and Aviation Services Limited Head of Airport Management H.S. Hettiarachchi, Deputy Head of Airport Management R.M. Piyadasa, Senior Assistant Airport Manager Samantha Abeywardena, Duty Manager E.D.A. Rajapaksa, Sri Lanka Customs Deputy Director D.N. Athukorale, Superintendent W.K. Randeniya and Deputy Superintendent M.I.M. Ismil, were also present on the occasion.
A discount of 10% on the current freight rates is applicable for shipments operating in and out of the MRIA. In a bid to assist the exports sector, a special introductory rate of US$ 0.30 cents per kilo is also applicable for shipments between Colombo and Mattala.
