The Events Committee of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers – Sri Lanka Branch is spearheading an exercise of organising a series of presentations on ‘topics of current interest’ for the benefit of the local shipping industry.
The first such presentation will be held on Wednesday 27 May from 5 p.m. hours to 7 p.m., at the National Olympic Committee (NOC) Auditorium, Olympic House, No 9/F, Independence Avenue, Colombo 7.
The theme of the first presentation is ‘Emerging shipping trends and the impact to the terminals, agents and merchants’, which will be followed by a panel discussion.
Under this theme Maritime Consultant, Economist and UNCTAD expert Ravindra Galhena will discuss: ‘The Global Container Port business and Opportunities for Colombo’, and SAGT Chief Operating Officer Ted Muttiah will discuss: ‘The emerging trends and concerns for container terminals and users at Colombo’.
Tea Tang Ltd Director, Shippers Council Past Chairman Jayanath Perera and CINEC Maritime Campus General Manager Administration and Operation Capt. Peshala Medagama will take part in the panel discussion while GAC Group of Companies Managing Director Mahesh Kurukulasuriya will be the moderator for the session.
The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (UK) Sri Lanka Branch has informed that they have planned to organise at regular intervals, a series of presentations on topics of current interests in the local/international maritime industry, for the benefit of the industry. These presentations will be delivered by professionals of standing who possess vast knowledge and experience in international trade, and are of the belief that these forums are capable of providing in depth knowledge and hence will be very useful for those involved in international trade.
