The fifth largest shipping company in the world, Evergreen Line, has introduced a direct service from Visakhapatnam to Jebel Ali in United Arab Emirates and Sohar in Oman.
Evergreen Line’s direct service from Vizag kicked off with the maiden voyage of MV Messini at the Visakha Container Terminal.
The Chennai-Colombo-Gulf (CCG) service, as it is called, will utilise four 2,200-TEU container ships, with one to be operated by Evergreen Line and the remaining three by Simatech, a Dubai-based feeder operator, Visakha Container Terminal Ltd. (VCTPL) said in a release.
The launch of the new service was celebrated on board the vessel by the VCT team with an exchange of mementos. This direct main line service to the Middle East enhances westbound connectivity. With this service, Vizag now has another main line service with direct connectivity to Colombo and Gulf.
This service from Vizag will greatly benefit the local hinterland and also provide the much needed fillip to transshipment cargo, the release added. Cargo from Kolkata to Jebel Ali and upper Gulf are expected to be transshipped at VCT on this weekly service offering faster transit to the Middle East.
VCT, with its modern container handling infrastructure facilities and the deepest draft in the country, is poised to become the regional hub on the east coast of India with the introduction of this new service to the west, the VCTPL release added.
