Container freight rates rise 2.4%

COPENHAGEN (Reuters): Shipping freight rates for transporting containers from ports in Asia to Northern Europe rose 2.4% to $ 1,183 per 20-foot container (TEU) in the week ended on Friday, a source with access to data from the Shanghai Containerised Freight Index told Reuters. It was the first time in three weeks that freight rates rose on the world’s busiest routes. Container freight rates have so far increased in seven weeks this year but fallen in 16 weeks. The average rate for 2014 is $ 1,287 per TEU compared with $ 1,090 last year.
