After much evaluation, the Ports and Shipping Ministry yesterday announced that they have decided to transfer the Oluvil port in the Eastern province back to the Fisheries Ministry to develop it as a fisheries harbour.
“At a lengthy discussion we had with Asian Development Bank (ADB) on Sri Lanka Ports Authority master plan, we decided on Oluvil port. We realised that it was difficult to be used for commercial operations and is only useful for fisheries,” Ports, Shipping and Southern Development Minister Sagala Ratnayaka told journalists in Colombo.
The Minister said that they have decided to hand it over to the Fisheries Ministry and the formalities to do so will be fast-tracked.
