Sri Lanka’s Ambassador in Poland C.A.H.M. Wijeratne recently met with State Minister of Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation at the Ministry in Warsaw.
During the meeting the Minister presented the scope of tasks carried out by the Ministry of Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation and informed the Ambassador about the Ministry’s priorities. The Ambassador discussed the issue of Sri Lanka’s export potential, which is largely represented by the world’s valued seafood and fish.
Issues related to maritime education and the possibility of obtaining internationally recognised certificates on maritime education in English language in Poland were also raised. The Ambassador proposed to initiate cooperation consisting in exchange of students between institutions of both countries dealing with education in the area related to sea and shipping and expressed his interests in the Polish Scholarship system.
The Minister also raised the topic of Sri Lankan support for Poland’s candidacy to the IMO Council for 2020-2021. The Ambassador agreed to consider the request favourably.
