The International Airline and Aviation College (IAAC) had its fifth convocation at the Bishop’s College auditorium hall on 15 September, under strict health precautionary measures.
State Minister of Aviation and Export Zones Development D.V. Chanaka graced the occasion as chief guest and gave away the awards. There were some special invitees including Dr. Kenneth de Zilwa, Kuwait International Airlines Country Manager Sudesh Rupasinghe, Captain Asitha de Silva of Sri Lankan Airlines and other professionals and personalities from the aviation industry.
IAAC was inaugurated in 2015 as a premier aviation school in the heart of Colombo offering curricula in aviation to the youth island-wide. With the inclusion of some veteran teachers and trainers who possess over three decades of experience in the industry, IAAC is in the forefront playing a pivotal role in producing the globe’s Next Generation of Aviation Professionals (NGAP). NGAP is a project already underway under the purview of International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) to cater the future demands in the aviation industry. In a view of covering the young aspirants from the north, IAAC had ZOOM connectivity of all its tutorials in Jaffna. In addition to the classroom, students are provided training in Grooming and Deportment, Team Building, Water Survival and Fire and Rescue. Students are also taken on familiarisation (FAM) tours to Ratmalana airport and observe its facilities including the Air Force museum.
The Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) has temporarily suspended FAM visits due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, and is also an important venue.
The ceremony was organised to felicitate over a 100 students who obtained Diplomas in four key subjects namely Ground Operations, Cargo and Logistics, Ticketing and Reservations, Cabin Crew. IAAC is a proud organisation which has trained over 1000 students from all over the island since its inception. They hope to expand their educational vistas in the near future, in order to provide even better prospects to every Sri Lankan locally and internationally.
