The Institute of Shipping and Logistics (IOSL) has been appointed as the Sri Lankan representative of the Institute of Commercial Management (ICM, UK) which is an awarding body delivering a wide range of professional qualifications including accounting and finance, entrepreneurship and enterprise, human resource development, purchasing and supply chain management, tourism and business studies and maritime management etc.
The IOSL celebrates its 40th anniversary this year and said it is delighted to offer this Prestigious British Qualification, the Diploma in Maritime Management to the Sri Lankan Shipping and Logistics community. This is a 12-month study programme consisting of 4 specialised modules which includes Maritime Economics, International Trade - Maritime etc.
The Institute is also offering a fast-track programme leading to the “Diploma in the Business of Shipping (UK)” which has a total duration of 9 months. Both these programmes consist of 3 levels commencing with the Certificate in Logistics Services, Freight Forwarding, MM Transport (Approved by the DGMS Ministry of Ports and Shipping) and the IOSL Foundation programme in Shipping and Logistics (total 26 modules and 6 months duration) culminating with the Business of Shipping course which consists of another 13 comprehensive modules.
Exemption from the Certificate Level will be granted to candidates who have completed the DGMS course at other authorised institutes.
The next intake will commence on Sunday 29 May and lectures will be held at the Ladies College IPS, Colombo 03. Zoom lectures will also be delivered to supplement the classroom programme whenever necessary. The UK registration fees and exam fees for the Diplomas would be payable in sterling pounds. The IOSL is the pioneer Shipping and Logistics Training Institute in Sri Lanka which was established in the year 1982. Last year the IOSL launched a ground-breaking Diploma Course, the “Diploma in Sales and Marketing for Maritime Shipping, Freight Forwarding and Logistics Services” which is approved by the Ceylon Association of Shipping Agents (CASA). This programme was launched by IOSL as a University Partner of the CIM (UK) and was advertised as a “First Time in Sri Lanka and the World” venture.
