A group of senior members of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers SL Branch met Speaker of Parliament Karu Jayasuriya who is also the senior most Fellow of the Institute, at his official residence recently.
The purpose of this meeting was to expedite the Chartered Shipbrokers examination which is a British qualification also to be recognised as a Lankan qualification and conduct the examination in Sri Lanka.
Speaker Karu Jayasuriya as a senior chartered shipbroker in Sri Lanka is interested in this move and at present the papers pertaining to this are at the Attorney General’s Department before being moved as an Act of Parliament shortly.
The founder chair of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers Sri Lanka Branch Maxwell de Silva said, “Once it is done and the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission accepts the curriculum in Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka could go ahead with the program of conducting the examination locally, thus turning a new page in Chartered Ship broking in Sri Lanka.”
