The International Airline and Aviation College recently concluded its convocation and graduation ceremony for 2019 at the Lighthouse Auditorium of the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute.

The illustrious event was held under the patronage of Minister of Aviation Arjuna Ranatunga, while guests of honour at the event were Air Transport and Economic Regulations CAASL Director Rayhan Wanniappa, Kuwait Airways Country Manager Sudesh Rupasinghe and Emirates Country Manager Chandana De Silva. Also present at the event were Sabre Country Manager Sanjika Perera and North American Aviation Group COO Chanaka Olagama.

This was the second such graduation for the IAAC which saw over 60 students graduate and receive diplomas in Airline Cabin Crew, Airline Ticketing Reservations and Marketing, Airport Ground Operations and Passenger Handling, Air Cargo Operations and Logistics. The IAAC was created under the auspices of the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission of Sri Lanka (TVEC) with the primary objective of providing students the in-house training, career guidance and support they need to give them the necessary access to jobs in the aviation industry. The IAAC has a wide range of programs on offer and has most recently added PPL/CPL Airline Pilot training as representatives for US Aviation in Sri Lanka.

Speaking at the event, IAAC Principal Rex Fernando stated, “A major concern faced by many school leavers today is the absence of a clear academic pathway leading up to the many job opportunities existing in the diverse aspects of the airline and aviation industry. The bridging of the gap was the catalyst for the inception of the IAAC or International Airline and Aviation College in late 2015. Our academic faculty consists of hand-picked qualified professionals with extensive industry exposure in the aviation industry and are committed to serving our students through excellent academic instructions and practical training utilising traditional and innovative methods of teaching.” All programs conducted by IACC have been designed to specifically meet the needs of the aviation industry and comply with the TVEC QMS standard. Ensuring that the IAAC has the capability to establish and maintain an environment fit for delivering education and training to specified standard and ensure continuous improvement of the system.

Today the IAAC is proud to have set a benchmark in the airline and aviation industry related vocational training, by offering quality education, affordable and accessible to everyone, in Sri Lanka, even to the masses residing in rural outstation cities. The IAAC is also proud to be working toward IATA requirements in keeping with the IATA Next Generation of Aviation Professionals (NGAP) program. An initiative launched by IATA to address the anticipated shortage of skilled aviation professionals in the near future.
