The Colombo Dockyard PLC (CDPLC) recently successfully handed over the Underwater Restaurant Structure constructed to be commissioned at a tourist resort, ‘YOU AND ME by Cocoon Maldives’, in the beautiful Uthuru Maafaru Islands in the west coast of Raa Atoll in the Republic of Maldives.
The restaurant was built under a contract entered by Colombo Dockyard PLC with AKDA Engineers International Ltd. of Hasowa Building, Boduthakurufanu Magu, Male’ for Uthurumaafuru Holdings Ltd. of Maldives.
The handing over ceremony took place at CDPLC premises with the participation of many dignitaries. For this auspicious occasion AKDA Chairman/MD A.K. Diyabalanage, AKDA Project Manager Sumudu Adikari, AKDA Site Manager B.R. Cooray representing AKDA Engineers International Ltd. and Director Asgi Akbarally, Director Shiraz Akbarally, Director Imran Akbarally and Group Chief Operating Officer Janek Jayasekara representing the client participated.
From Colombo Dockyard, Chairman Dr. Toru Takehara, MD/CEO D.V. Abeysinghe, Project Manager Samantha Senarathne and a host of other senior management personnel participated. This Underwater Restaurant Structure will be towed and placed underwater in Uthuru Maafaru at the west coast of Raa Atoll in Maldives and is set to be a top tourist attraction in the Maldives. The restaurant will give a magical, extraordinary experience and an exquisite dining experience under the clear blue sea, while enjoying the view of beautiful fish and marine life in the natural under water surroundings.
The first ever construction of an underwater restaurant structure by CDPLC shows the capability of Colombo Dockyard to cater to clients varying requirements from complex commercial vessels to requirements in the hospitality industry, and has created a good opportunity to market such underwater restaurant structures for the tourism industry in tourist hot spots worldwide.
CDPLC operates in joint collaboration with Onomichi Dockyard Company Ltd. of Japan who owns a stake of 51% at Colombo Dockyard PLC while Sri Lankan Government institutions have a 35% shareholding at Colombo Dockyard.
