The Centre for International Private Enterprise (CIPE), together with Women in Logistics and Transport (WiLAT) Sri Lanka and Verité Research,will launch the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation (GATF) project on ‘Positioning Sri Lanka as a hub for Multi-Country Consolidation services’ on Wednesday.
The Alliance is a collaboration led by CIPE, the International Chamber of Commerce and the World Economic Forum, in cooperation with Gesellschaftfür Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). It is funded by the governments of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and Germany. The GATF helps governments in the developing and least developed countries implement the World Trade Organisation’s Trade Facilitation Agreement.
The project in Sri Lanka aims to identify and implement trade facilitation reforms that can unleash the potential of the country to become a hub for Multi-Country Consolidation services in the region.
The launch will be at 5.00 p.m. on 3 October at the Union Ballroom, Hilton Colombo Residences.
The Chief Guest will be Development Strategies and International Trade Minister Malik Samarawickrama.
GATF Deputy Director José Raúl Perales, GATF Senior Advisor/Sri Lanka Project ManagerEric Miller, Sri Lanka Ports Authority Chairman Dr. Parakrama Dissanayake, and Sri Lanka Customs Director GeneralP. S. M. Charlesare among those scheduled to speak at the event.
The launch will also have a panel discussion and open forum providing private sector perspective moderated by Ministry of Development Strategies and International Trade Advisor Anushka Wijesinha.
