On 9 March 2011, COSCO Hong Kong held a party to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of COSCO at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Donald Tsang, the Chief Executive of HKSAR Government, Huang Lanfa, Deputy Director of Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in HKSAR, Li Yuanming, Deputy Commissioner of Commissioner’s Office of China’s Foreign Ministry in HKSAR, Eva Cheng, JP, Secretary for Transport and Housing of HKSAR Government, Capt. Wei Jiafu, President and CEO of COSCO Group, Li Yunpeng, Vice President of COSCO Group and Xu Minjie, Vice President of COSCO Group, together with over 1,200 others including guests, business partners and staff of COSCO Hong Kong attended the party.
On behalf of the management of COSCO Hong Kong, Wang Futian, President of COSCO Hong Kong, expressed warm welcome to the leaders and guests in his speech. He said that in the past 50 years COSCO Hong Kong has not only made great contribution to the fast development and globalisation of COSCO, but has also played an important role in enhancing and consolidating the status of Hong Kong as an international shipping centre.
President Wei Jiafu of COSCO Group delivered an important speech. He said 27 April 2011 was the 50th birthday of COSCO. The first strains of ‘Guang Hua’ vessel’s siren announced the beginning of the ocean shipping business of New China and it heralded a new era of the merchant seaman in striving for the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
After 50 years, COSCO has become a leading international shipping conglomerate which is No. 1 in China and N0. 2 in the world and its businesses extend to all corners of the world. COSCO has made great contributions to the economic development and trade of China and the world. President Wei Jiafu reviewed the achievements made by COSCO in Hong Kong. He expressed his heartfelt thanks for the support extended by the HKSAR Government and the guests.
On behalf of the guests, Gao Yingxin, Deputy Chief Executive of Bank of China (Hong Kong), delivered a speech at the party.
