WB extends $ 2.7 m grant to boost nutrition among IDPs

The World Bank has agreed to provide a grant of US$ 2.7 million for improvement of Nutrition level of the displaced people in the Northern Province.

The funds for this purpose have been granted by the Government of Japan under the Japan Social Development Fund (JSDF) where the World Bank receives periodic contributions.

The objective of the project is to reduce the malnutrition rates among the displaced population in the Northern Province. The proceeds of the grant will be utilised for supply of emergency food rations, community mobilisation, community based nutrition interventions and supervision and monitoring of the project. Around 7,100 undernourished pregnant and lactating mothers and 12,600 underweight children below five years will be directly benefited through this project.

The project will be implemented by the Northern Province Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medicine under the guidance and technical support of the Ministry of Health.
