Top Sri Lankan marketer honoured at World Brand Congress

The Group Director/Head of Marketing & Sales of Ceylon Biscuits Limited (CBL) Nandana Wickremage was honoured with the prestigious ‘The Brand Leadership Award’ at the 19th World Brand Congress, held in Mumbai, India recently.

This honour was bestowed on Wickremage in recognition of his professional efforts and approach to build many brands under his purview throughout his marketing and sales career of 30 years.

His ability to manage risk while being a change agent and the capacity of delivering marketing innovations  impressive marketing/branding strategy, which maps back to how brands with his leadership achieved business goals, market leadership and brand excellence were taken in to consideration for this prestigious award.

Elevating the brands of his present institution (CBL) to its present status as the leading and most popular iconic institution in Sri Lanka amongst all sectors was also a key consideration.

This year’s theme at the Congress was ‘Building Borderless Brand: Rethinking Innovation’ and was chaired by Sanjay Behl, Group Head-Brand & Marketing, Reliance Communication Ltd., one of the leading business empires in India.

The awards ceremony attracted top executives from diverse industries from around 100 countries. On the occasion of presenting the Brand Leadership Award to Wickremage, Dave Porter, the Global Chairman of the World Brand Congress said that the ‘Brand Leadership Award’ was the most prestigious award an individual can receive at the World Brand Congress.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Raju L Bhatia, Project Director, World Brand Congress 2010 said: “The ‘Brand Leadership Award’ is the most prestigious award and the highest recognition that an individual could receive at the World Brand Congress. It is presented to an individual who has played a pivotal role in shaping and building brands. Under the individual’s able stewardship, these brands are then nurtured to an iconic status. Nandana Wickremage is one such individual who efforts need to be recognised for his contribution to the Munchee brand. We are delighted to honour him with the ‘Brand Leadership Award.’”

Wickremage is well known for developing effective marketing strategy and launching many successful brands in Sri Lanka and his exceptional ability to lead sales and marketing teams in executing the plans. Wickremage is also an excellent sales trainer and a practical marketing coach. The recognition he received at the last World Brand Congress is a yet another achievement in his professional life.
