Sugarcane farmers to India

As a landmark event in the sugar industry in Sri Lanka, a group of 20 outstanding sugarcane farmers attached to Pelwatta and Sewanagala sugar factories of Lanka Sugar Company Ltd. left the island recently for a training session in India. Prior to their departure, the farmers started that their intention was to make use of knowledge gained during this training session to improve productivity of their sugar cane plantation and they were optimistic that the learning could be shared among other farmers too, benefitting the whole industry. This overseas training for sugarcane farmers was organised under the direction of Minister of Sugar Industry Development Lakshman Senewiratne.
