The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) affiliated Inter University Student Federation (IUSF) has sent letters to foreign diplomatic missions in the country informing them of the crises faced by the university students in the country.
The IUSF today has sent letters to several diplomatic missions including the US, French, Cuban, Chinese and Russian ambassadors and the Indian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka.
Acting IUSF Convener, Sanjeewa Bandara has requested for appointments to meet the respective mission chiefs to explain the alleged suppression of the university student movements by the government. IUSF states that they plan to inform the diplomatic community that over 203 university students have currently been suspended while another 27 have been placed under remand custody.
The IUSF is accused of inciting unrest in the country’s universities. Its convener Udul Premaratne was recently arrested for leading a group of student to forcibly enter the Higher Education Ministry premises and cause damage to property. (ColomboPage)
