Minister of Higher Education S.B. Dissanayake said, the government was planning to make Sri Lanka the education hub in Asia and that this was the best time to realise the President’s dream of making Sri Lanka the centre of education in Asia.

He noted that the Universities had to be disciplined.

The unions of students, teachers and the non-academic staff should work together to achieve this goal.

There could be debate but those should result in better work. He said that discussions were currently underway with Austria, Norway, Japan and China to obtain interest free concessionary loans to fulfill shortcomings in universities.

The Minister expressed this view while participating at the 10th inter-university sports meet held at the Sri Jayawardenapura University premises.

The first, second and third positions were won by the Colombo, Sri Jayawardenapura and Moratuwa universities.

Minister C.B. Ratnayake, Secretary to the Ministry of Higher Education Dr Sunil Jayantha Navaratne and Vice Chancellor of the Sri Jayawardenapura University Dr. N.L.A. Karunaratne participated at the occasion.
