Adopting the theme; Enthuse, Engage, Empower — the South Asian Youth Summit on Climate Change 2010 will be held in Colombo Sri Lanka from the 27 to 30 October 2010 at the Subodhi Institute.
The event is organised by the Sri Lankan Youth Climate Action Network (SLYCAN) which was founded in the aftermath of the tsunami to create greater awareness amongst youth on environmental conservation and related issues.
The South Asian Youth Summit on Climate Change is an annual fixture. In 2009 Dulikel, Nepal was its first venue which saw the participation of over 70 youth leaders and several national environmental networks attached to the South Asian Youth Movement on Climate Change.
The objective of the 2010 summit is to rally young people across the region to reinforce the need and commitment to collectively work towards combating the adverse effects of climate change by building and strengthening capacities of youth and youth organisations across the region. Amongst the key objectives of the 2010 summit will be the forming of a common policy basis for the South Asian Youth Delegation for the COP 16 summit to be held in Cancun, Mexico in December 2010. Dialog Telekom in Partnership with Earthlanka will be live streaming the summit on www.earthlanka.net
